Defining Moments

Hi!

I created a 10 x 10 wood plaque for a friend and coworker to

celebrate the day he was baptized.

 

I wanted to create something that would be house friendly; going with any decor,

as well as something that was masculine.

What better way to go masculine than with gears and bolts.

(Some of the stuff came from work)

 

I added texture and dimension with a wood grain stencil

and some modeling paste.

Then using several colors of distress stains I ended up with this...

 

The middle looks a little funky because the stencil is only 6" and I did not line up the 

wood grain that well, but knowing I was going to do stuff in the center

and all the way across it worked.

The gears and stuff I painted with metallic paints and then

added some black here and there to give a bit more dimension.

 I added a piece of cheesecloth that I soaked with some of the distress

stains and some Paverpol to make it stiff.

Hard to see in the picture but both sides go off the edges

a little.

So excited to announce I made the DT for Paverpol!

 

 I'm Kim, I live in Tucson, AZ, I am in my 40's and am married to a fantastic guy named Dave. 

We have 3 children in our blended family...all over the age of 19.

If a person needs a label, mine would be "Crafter". 

I just love to craft, it's my outlet and what keeps me sane.

I am looking forward to working with not

only this wonderful product but

with each of these ladies!

Hi!

Wow, it is surprising to me how long it has been since I posted anything!

Today I want to show a canvas I made to enter
for a design team position with

The company is new to me but seems to have

some incredible products for all sorts of art projects.

No matter what I am making I like try to

start out with an idea of what I want to create:

theme, colors, words, even layout

before I get to creating. Once I have that I like to gather the 

embellishments, paints, sprays, etc in a box or tray.

 My collection of embellies I may use

Some flowers and what not I may use...color doesn't matter because

I will gesso over the whole thing before adding my colors.

The start of my color choices.

I never limit myself with a color palette.

Now that the thinking part is done I grab my canvas and

start to add my texture with stencils.

Once I let that dry I start to lay out my embellishments...it's

funny how sometimes what you start out with ends up back on the shelf 

or in a different spot on the project!

Once I get them where I want them I glue them down and start on the gesso...

making sure to get it all over and into everything. 

Then start with my colors. I used some Tattered Angels, Lindy's and Jacquard paints.

This is the hardest step to describe in any detail because a lot of the time

I will just grab a color and start spraying...hoping it will work out

with the other colors. BIGGEST thing is to let it dry before

adding new colors. Or they can start to muddy up a bit.

I will wait a day or two before I decide a piece is finished and

will usually end up adding more paint or spray!

This piece I had to just stop myself and say it's DONE

after I added some micro beads, mica flakes and some pigment dust here and there.

 I took 10 pictures and none of them look like what the canvas really looks like

but here we are. LOL

Shades of Blue

My niece Becca just graduated

a few weeks ago, but her party was just on Saturday,

in Naples, Florida...

sometimes it stinks to live so far away.

She received a scholarship to UCF and leaves for the dorms on the 23rd!

I made her a 12 x 12 shadowbox frame using two of her favorite colors.

Mermaid 4 Blake

With all the wood we cut up

I have about 25 pieces to make stuff with!

So Jenna asked me to make a 12 x 12 frame

for her co-workers daughter.

The little girl, Blake, loves Ariel so this is what I came up with...

I used mod podge for the base under the sand, let it dry for a few days,

used 4 different blue stains from Tim Holtz, let that dry, sprayed it with hair

spray to try to keep the sand from falling off here and there, added stains to the rest of the 

frame, used some Lindy's mists and let that dry!

Once I felt the sand was set enough I added my charms with hot glue.

I colored my image (one of the images from Prettygrafikdesign on etsy) with 

Copics, glitter pens, then added versa mark and embossing powder

to make it hard and shiny.

I really wanted a shiny, watery look so I added some 

pouring medium in irredecent, some Acrylic Flow Release, 

and some Acrylic Glazing Liquid. 

Honestly I had no clue what was going to happen...

I just wanted a more watery look!

I think it worked out better than I thought it would.

JUST TOOK FOREVER TO DRY! LOL

Memories

I created this project for a very special person...

when I first started here at AZ Truck Outfitters (16 years ago)

there was a guy named Lou. 

He had a huge heart, loved God and his church, 

and could be a pain in my butt!

We became friends over the 12 years we worked together.

He passed away in January of 2011 leaving behind

his beloved niece Mary.

His birthday was Sunday the 7th of June,

so in remembrance I created this for Mary..

I used a piece of MDF board that my  hubby cut down for me.

This one is 10 x 10" and using Tim Holtz stains 

in about 7 different shades of browns, I ended up with this.

I added a liquid medium over the top to get it glossy.

I saw a project on Pinterest that I knew I had to make.

...........................................................

then time passed

...........................................................

and more time

.............................................

And finally I decided to quit saying I was going to create it

and just do it.

So with out further ado...

I created the small 4 x 4 inch ones first

And did texture and color on each one

.

 

 

 I used 4 heavy, thick 10 x 10" canvas placed at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock

and used regular 8 x 8" canvas in the corners.

You can see where I had to add another 8 x 8 under so 

we could attach them.

Here is my wonderful hubby stapling them together...

I also used hot glue on the front to make sure it

all stayed together!

 Here are some individual pictures of each canvas..

 I used poems and quotes to finish off the piece.

 Each family member is represented...even

the dogs.

 I really liked how this turned out.

 And I finally did I project from Pinterest instead of just pinning it!
